Cebu City workers may now take a leave

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City employees may now take a leave of absence.

In a May 31 memorandum, acting mayor Margarita Osmeña lifted the suspension on the leave of absences of all City Hall employees and officials this month, saying the transition is "getting into normal condition."

"For the reason that transition is getting into normal condition, you are hereby informed that the memorandum dated May 18, 2016 cancelling all applications for leave of absence is revoked," she said.

The memorandum is addressed to all department heads, administrative officers and employees.

In another memo she issued earlier, Osmeña recalled applications and approved leave of absences, saying department heads were leaving City Hall after the suspension of 14 city officials.

The new memo took effect on June 1.

Osmeña said applications for leave of absence shall be processed according to the guidelines under the Civil Service Commission and Cebu City- Human Resource and Development Office.

"The HRDO is directed to ensure that all applications and approval of leave of absences shall comply with the existing rules and regulations," the memorandum reads.

Osmeña assumed as acting mayor last May 17 after outgoing mayor Michael Rama, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, and 12 city councilors were suspended over the release of the P20,000 calamity aid in 2013. — (FREEMAN)
