Dumpit starts re-applying as cop

CEBU, Philippines - Before going back home to Davao Oriental to see his mother, controversial policeman Senior Police Officer 1 Adonis Dumpit made sure to start processing his clearance for his reinstatement to the police service.

Dumpit, 53, who is out on bail pending the appeal of his homicide case, went to the Police Regional Office-7 yesterday to meet with regional director Chief Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador Jr.

For now, Comendador said they officially have no hold over him yet. He said Dumpit can go home and then return to continue his courtesy call.

“So far we have no jurisdiction over Dumpit. But once he can report to R1 (Regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division) we will have administrative jurisdiction over him. By that all movements of Dumpit will be controlled by the PNP,” he said.

Comendador advised Dumpit that before he will be deployed to the field once reinstated, he has to read the new directives and issuances of the Philippine National Police to become oriented.

When asked how it felt to step back into the Police Regional Office headquarters, Dumpit said he was nervous.

“Kuyawan ko’g di ko madawat, mang-apply nalang ko’g City Hall,” he said.

Dumpit actually spent some time being incarcerated in a police office since he was detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 office for a year before his trial for allegedly killing suspected robber Ronron Go. He then spent four years at the Cebu City Jail after his conviction before he was sent to Abuyog, Leyte, where he was detained for another year before his bail was approved.

If reinstated, Dumpit said he is ready to serve and protect.

Dumpit further said the reward given by Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmeña to policemen who shoot dead suspects who violently resist arrest is one way of encouraging them to do their job.  (FREEMAN)
