Mandaue to source out P35M for employee’s salary hike

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City will need at least P35 million to implement the Salary Standardization Law for its 600 regular employees, as well as for the appointed and elected officials.

Mandaue City treasurer Regal Oliva said they will have to source out at least P35 million to provide for the salary increase, which is retroactive from January this year.

He said the salary increase is not incorporated in this year’s annual budget, hence the City Council recently approved an ordinance authorizing the city to release the funds.

Oliva said they will have to realign from certain funds for this additional expense. For this year, excluding the increase, the city has allocated P110 million for personnel services.

But Oliva said he is confident they have the funds for the increase.

“I’m very confident we are backed up with enough funds for SSL,” he said.

He said the council has also approved the 14th month pay of the workers, appointees and elected officials. He added that once Mayor Jonas Cortes has signed the ordinance, they will immediately release the 14th month pay and the salary increase differential.  (FREEMAN)
