CCPO hopes for lot donation from provincial government

Ma. Fatima R. Secuya/ATO - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Police Office will be coordinating with the Provincial Government to follow-up on the possible donation of the lot inside the CCPO compound to give way to the construction of a new headquarters for the city police.

Councilor David Tumulak, head of the city government’s Peace and Order Program, said that some parts of the lot inside the CCPO are still owned by the Cebu provincial government and this is the reason why they have not yet spent the P50 million budget for the CCPO building.

“Kay di man ta makapatukod lagi kung wa’y klaro o kwestyonable kung kinsa ang nanag-iya sa luna,” said Tumulak.

Yesterday, Tumulak went to the CCPO headquarters along Gorordo Avenue and met with Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela Jr., CCPO acting chief.

He said Batiancela informed him that he received information from the Regional Engineer’s Office of the Police Regional Office-7 on the possible donation, but have not yet seen any document related to the lot.

Tumulak said Batiancela promised him that they will coordinate with the Cebu Provincial Government for the possible donation of the lot.

“Which is kana mao atong gipaabot kay di man gud ta pwede mopatukod sa bag-o nga building kung dili nato ma-settle ang luna nga giturokan sa atong CCPO,” said Tumulak.

Tumulak also clarified that the unspent budget under the city government’s Peace and Order Program is due to the problem on property ownership and not because someone is stalling its use.

“Ang ato lang gipaabot ang pag-prepare lang gyud sa mga dokumento. Ari lang ta sa legal nga proseso kaysa magdali-dali ta,” he said.

Tumulak also said he and Batiancela have agreed on the plan to separate the firing range inside the CCPO to another area since a number of residents near the CCPO have complained about the burst of gunfire they hear every time police personnel use the firing range.

“Mahadlok man gud sila so we’ll transfer this to Barangay Kalunasan. Ibuwag gyud siya,” he said, adding another P17 million was appropriated for the new firing range.

Tumulak also said they are ready to provide the needed equipment of CCPO, like patrol cars, search and rescue equipment and safety gears with a budget of P108 million, as long as they could submit the formal request.   (FREEMAN)
