Cebu City brgy tanods to join in cleanup drive

CEBU, Philippines - Barangay tanods from all over Cebu City will gather for a cleanup drive in Barangay Tejero this Saturday.

The City’s Barangay Tanod Coordinator, Samson Dasoc, said they will specifically clean the river in the said barangay.

“Diha (in barangay Tejero) mga sagbot sa creek area gyud (need to be cleaned). Maka-cause sa baha, kay mouwan motaob ang dagat moatras man ang tubig moawas,” Dasoc said, adding that Mayor Michael Rama instructed him to gather the tanods for the activity.

Dasoc emphasized that the activity is not compulsory but he is encouraging all the tanods to participate.

“Depende sa available. Pero dili sa ingon nga i-require sila. Volunteerism man. Sa gusto ra na. Giawhag ang mga tanod nga unta mo participate sila kay kaayohan mana sa syudad,” he said.

There are around 1,600 tanods in the city, 20 for each of the 80 barangays. According to Dasoc, he is expecting at least more than a hundred barangay tanods to cooperate in the activity.

He is also encouraging the residents near the river to join the activity.

“Mao na nga hangyuon namo ang nagpuyo daplin sa Tejero River, naa may barangayan bayanihan volunteerism ako na sila (encourage to help) kay naa man mi manglimpyo sa ilang tugkaran,” Dasoc added.

He said he is also planning to organize a group which will be in-charge for the monitoring of the cleanliness of the area.

“Gani akong giplanohan nga og pwede ako sila organisahon aron ma-maintain ang kahinlo diha kay ang nagda sagbot diha kana ra mang mga residente,” he said further.

He assured that if the activity will be successful, they will also have other cleanup drives in other barangays. For now, he said there is no specific plan yet on what they will do next. — (FREEMAN)
