Six enforcers lose jobs over misdemeanors

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo/RHM - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management did not renew the services of six of its enforcers this year due to their alleged involvement in anomalies.

“Some ani nila kay na-positive sa drug test, naa poy ni-refuse sa drug test, naa poy na-involve nga manawat daw (There are those who were found positive of illegal drugs use, others refused to take a drug test, while there are also those who are said to take bribes),” said Jonathan Tumulak, CITOM operations head.

He, however, declined to name the enforcers since CITOM has not filed any complaint against the six.

“Wala man nato sila gi-terminate, wala lang nato gi-renew ilang contract,” he told THE FREEMAN.

Tumulak said they received complaints from people and conducted investigations to verify the allegations.

“Dili gyud mi mo-tolerate ani, bisan pa og unsa ka kadugay sa imong trabaho,” he said, adding that some of the enforcers have been in the job for five to 10 years already.

“Agi lang pod ni og pahimangno sa atong mga enforcers karon nga magtinarong sa ilang trabaho kay sakto man pod sila og sweldo, dapat dili gyod binuangan ang trabaho (This serves as warning that they should remain faithful to their jobs as they are compensated well),” he added.

Last year, CITOM also did not renew the contracts of several traffic enforcers for alleged corruption. CITOM has 239 traffic enforcers, excluding the parking aides.

Tumulak said their office is also training parking aides to choose from their ranks replacement traffic enforcers, who are now closely monitored to check their work efficiency.  (FREEMAN)
