Burglar strikes zoo, takes cash, gadgets
CEBU, Philippines - A burglar took a cellphone, a tablet and cash worth P4,000 to P6,000 from the Cebu Zoo office in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.
Zoo manager Giovanne Stephen Romarate disco-vered the incident at around 7:00 a.m. yesterday when he reported for work and saw a piece of glass jalousie of his office window removed.
He said her daughter was awakened by a sound from the window and asked who is there but nobody answered so she went back to sleep inside her father’s office inside the zoo.
Romarate said when her daughter woke up, she noticed that her tablet and her phone were missing.
He said the suspect still managed to eat the watermelon and drank the milk in the refrigerator.
The suspect also took the metal box that was placed near the gate of the zoo containing the cash they have as a sinking fund.
Personnel from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit took samples of the employees’ finger prints yesterday morning to cross-match against fingerprints found in the window.
Romarate dismissed the possibility of an inside job saying he knew all the employees.
The zoo compound does not have fence so people just come and go as they like, he said.
Prior to the burglary Romarate said someone took a metal drum. (FREEMAN)
