Quick tips for a quick Day Trip

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  There is a time when the itch to go some place is hard to resist. When a free day connives with an eagerness to make a trip, one will just have to pack up and go. In that sequence – pack up first and then go.

Even if it’s just a quick trip that may take only a few hours, packing a few essentials will do no harm. It need not take so much time, either. There are just certain things that one needs to do or bring along.

Where to go. It helps to ask someone on a possible destination. Better if it’s someone who’s actually been there. The person is sure to give several reasons why the place is good to visit and a few ideas on how to make the most of the trip.

Personal essentials. There’s no guarantee that clean drinking water is available in the destination, for example, so it’s better to have a bottle or two in a bag. Tissue paper is necessary, too, for wiping off dirt that one may pick up on the trip or for wiping perspiration.

Extra shirt. An extra shirt is not really going to saddle a trip. And yet it’s good assurance that one can gracefully recover from an unexpected mess on the trip. To avoid the shirt being crumpled, it can be folded and rolled, and squeezed in a bag.

Cash. It’s a no-brainer; of course, one will feel secure with cash in the pocket. There are always instances that come up when one needs to spend. Either it’s giving a tip to the boy who shows the way or buying a bunch of nice bananas displayed along the road etc., it’s good to be ready with cash.

Comfortable attire. Since it’s just a quick day trip, things may not really have to be too laid out for one’s comfort. It may be necessary to bring one’s own food and drinks from home, which means he or she may have to carry a full bag along. It would certainly be a minus to be in tight-fitting clothes and wrong footwear, given that the trip may entail certain distance of walking.

Travel light. This is the general rule. The bag shall be handy enough, with some allowance for anything you may pick up along the way.  But it shall not be too big, either, to tempt you to fill it up with unnecessary stuff.

There are certainly many other things to cover. But this is only going to be a quick day trip. It is, perhaps, not worth it to spend days of planning and packing for a trip that will take only a few hours.- Jerome Ares
