“Denim Academy”

CEBU, Philippines — The versatility of denim was on full view in “Denim Academy”, a runway fashion presentation which drew the spotlight on designer and brand ‘collab-creations’, at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City on July 31.

Featured were designs by 36 students of design institutions in Cebu, namely Cebu Institute of Technology-University, Southwestern University, Fashion Institute of the Philippines Cebu, University of San Carlos, and Fashion Institute of Design and Arts Cebu. Works by five of the metro’s up-and-coming designers – Celine Borromeo, Edward Castro, Rei Escario, Pinky Magalona, and Mike Yapching – were also showcased. The event proved that there’s more possibilities to denim than just a pair of pants.

Effectively, the show elevated denim and the denim jeans’ position as a “wardrobe basic,” through cuts that were amplified with trimmed side seams, tapings conveyed the influence of the athleisure trend and cascades that were cropped by denim fringe.

“Denim Academy” was a part of SM Malls’ nationwide observance of July’s as “Denim Month.”
