The other highlights of the Sinulog Grand Parade
CEBU, Philippines — Almost exclusively, the Sinulog Grand Parade is associated with its street dancing part. In fact, however, there are other equally interesting sides to the event.
The attendance of puppets and “higantes” (mascots) in this year’s Sinulog parade did well in completing the Sinulog experience for many – a testament to how the annual event serves as a venue for various creative talents to shine.
There’s no question whatsoever how the “higantes” in particular added to the overall fiesta vibe. Moreover, it is something quite very Cebuano, as “higantes” also cheer up crowds at parades in many towns of the island province.
Matched by the presence of this year’s Sinulog Festival Queen winners leading their respective contingents, and the fabulous floats, and the roster of movie and TV stars, Sunday’s gloomy weather couldn’t fetter the grand parade’s appeal and grandness – altogether living up to the Sinulog’s standing as the “grandest festival of its class” in the Philippines.
