LG’s “G8” to have an “attachable second screen”?

THE TECH CIRCUIT - Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

LG’s reputation for developing phones with “out of the ordinary” designs and features recently roused the interests of techies, with rumors that the brand is set to roll out a smartphone that comes with provisions for an “attachable second screen.”

Reported by various news sites and techy leaks-and-rumors blogs, it is believed that LG’s forthcoming flagship – the “G8” – will come with a feature that invariably arms users with the option to expand their phone’s screen real estate through an add-on accessory.

Details on the rumored phone’s and “attachable second screen’s” dimensions have been sketchy, but a number of sites are convinced that the brand will debut the model in this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain next month.

Should the rumored phone with “attachable second screen” be true, industry analysts foresee the model as the reasonably priced alternative to foldable phone models that are expected to be unveiled this year.

Apple unveils new iPhone battery case line

Over the weekend, Apple unveiled a new product line: battery cases for iPhones, specifically the “iPhone XS,” the “iPhone XS Max,” and the “iPhone XR”.

Cited to dramatically extend the battery life of compatible iPhone models, the cases are rated to add up to 21 hours of internet usage on the XS, up to 20 hours on the XS Max and up to 22 hours on the XR.

The cases also come with integrated iOS features that allow users to properly monitor the charging cycles of the battery cases’ battery, available in either black or white silicone finishes.

Compatible with Qi-certified chargers (which allows for wireless charging), Apple (via the cases’ documentation pages) notes that the cases will only work with models that these are designed for. This means that the cases won’t work with older iPhone models with similar physical dimensions like the iPhone X.

Reactions on the unveiling have been mixed. A number of netizens welcomed the prospect of using the case for their convenience, while a number considered the move as Apple’s admission that the battery charge-discharge rate of the XS, XS Max and XR is not all that. More information on the cases is posted on Apple’s official online channels.

Motorola bringing back the “RAZR”?

Rumors that Motorola is set on bring back its iconic “RAZR” clamshell phone this year has recently cropped up.

Reported by news organizations and tech rumor sites over the weekend, word is that the new “RAZER” will be topped by a foldable screen – essentially setting it as a foldable phone that’s designed around the classic design concept of old-school phones.

Specifics on the phone’s technical points have been sketchy, but a report by the Wall Street Journal indicates that it will likely be a US-exclusive model to be released possibly as early as next month.

Should the rollout of a “RAZR” with foldable screen pan out, it won’t be the first “retro-themed” rollout for the model, since in 2011 and 2012, Motorola released a line of RAZR models running on Android dubbed the “Droid RAZR” line.
