Trunk Shows in the Week Past

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — In the recent past years, the city has been the venue of a number of trunk shows, wherein designers and brands present products to clients in intimate gatherings.

At times referred to as “pop-ups” or “exhibits,” the term “trunk show” emanates from a tradition wherein the featured items are transported in luggage trunks, an allusion to the elemental novelty such gatherings bring to the clientele of a given locale.

During the past week, three trunk shows took place in Cebu. The unique events drew the spotlight on items which could not be had just about anywhere.

“The Louis Vuitton Apartment”

December 6 to 9, The SkyLounge, Calyx Residences

For its fourth trunk show in Cebu, global luxury brand Louis Vuitton refurnished the interiors of the Sky Lounge of Calyx Residences at the Cebu Business Park district to match the contemporary aesthetics of the brand’s in-season lines.

The centerpiece of the occasion was the brand’s “Cocoon” chair – a limited-edition piece that’s part of the brand’s 2018 “Objets Nomades” home furnishings and accent piece line.

The presented collection of ladies handbags was, of course, also presented during the event. Mainly strewn by contemporary translations of the 80s’ bombastic vibe, the handbags were showcased next to a number of Louis Vuitton’s in-season collections –ranging from the brand’s ready-to-wear line for men and women, shoes, watches, luggage lines and more.

Virtucio Design’s “Green Holiday”

December 8, Main Lobby, Quest Cebu Hotel & Conference Center

As a fashion accessories brand, the 2014-established Virtucio Design takes pride in its eco-conscientious approach in the making of clutches, bangles and necklaces.

This much was evident in the brand’s first ever pop-up event dubbed “Green Holiday,” featuring fashion accessories made from up-cycled materials like used cellophane bags.

The brainchild of designer Christine Virtucio, the brand utilizes repurposed plastics sourced from LGU-sponsored livelihood programs in Bohol. For its holiday collection, Virtucio Design worked with kaleidoscopic patterns in integrating art nouveau and Bauhaus elements into its showcased pieces.
