Compostela high school gets new building from PAGCOR

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Compostela Science and Technology High School (CSTHS) at Barangay Cogon in Compostela town, Cebu on Wednesday formally opened the newly constructed four-storey 20-room building, donated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

PAGCOR turned over to the CSTHS administration the supervision of the new building, built at a cost of at least P41 million, in addition to the school’s existing four buildings that have only eight classrooms.

Maria Teresa Selanoba, CSTHS principal, said the school had been struggling in accommodating its growing number of students, now at 542, due to lack of classrooms, but PAGCOR came to the rescue.

Selanoba said classes for the Junior High School will be transferred to the 12 classrooms of the new building. The other three rooms will be used as laboratorites for biology, chemistry, and physics classes. Two of the rooms will be designed as computer laboratories, another for speech lab, and the rest for a library and a mathematics shop.

Cebu Provincial Board Member Miguel Antonio Magpale, vice chairperson of the committee on education and who also advocated for the project, attended the launching event with officials of PAGCOR, the Department of Education, and Compostela local government.
