Keeping Time

CEBU, Philippines — Nowadays almost everybody has a cell phone. Aside from making and taking calls, the thing does a lot more. For example, it keeps time too.

So, when one has a cell phone, there’s no more need for a watch. Right? Wrong!

Watches are more than just timepieces. In fact, science has proven that watches are more useful than phones for punctuality. Okay, it may be because when people check the time on their smartphones, they can’t help but also check Facebook and then they forget about time altogether.

It’s inexplicable how a decent watch maker its wearer decent, too. There’s something about a watch that seems to add a veneer of dignity to the person wearing it. Perhaps it communicates that the person values his time, which in turn can mean that he has serious matters to spend his time on.

With a phone, obviously keeping time is not its main purpose. It would probably not even matter at all the clock feature is not there. Carlo Modequillo
