Cobonpue Wins Industrial Design Award

CEBU, Philippines — Renowned Cebuano industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue bagged a new win for Cebu and the Philippines recently in winning the “Individual Seating Lounge” category award at the 2018 Annual IIDA/HD Product Design Competition in Las Vegas, USA.

Besting hundreds of entries, Cobonpue’s “Peacock” collection impressed the competition’s panel of judges, who ranked the winning furniture piece based on innovation, technical advancements, cost efficiency, environmental consciousness, aesthetics, client-user benefits, and need and usage in the hospitality industry.

Cobonpue is the first Filipino designer to win the award.

The IIDA/HD Product Design Competition was part of the highlights of the HD Expo in Las Vegas, USA. The event is widely viewed as the biggest hospitality industry trade show in the US. The annual competition is spearheaded by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), in partnership with Hospitality Design magazine.

Apart from the “Peacock” collection, Cobonpue also exhibited several collections in the expo; the “Tropez Collection,” the “Chiquita” stool, the “Zaza” side chair, the “Pigalle” easy chair and the “Rapunzel” easy armchair, among others. (YRST)
