5 Mind-Blowing Gadgets in 2018

CEBU, Philippines — The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) early this year gave a glimpse of the latest cutting-edge technology that was likely to change people’s lives. Five gadgets stood out.

1) The end of bad habits

Several companies have developed devices that react to bad behavior. Those who are tired of snoring bed partners may see hope in the Snore Circle’s eye mask that vibrates and nudges the user into another position if he or she makes noises at night.

Or those who’d like to get rid of an annoying habit of picking theirskin may buythemselves a Keen, a smart bracelet that will give a buzz whenever they’re at it again.

Not exactly a bad habit, but as annoying: for women that suffer from bladder leaks after childbirth, smart underwear has been developed that tracks urine loss and motivates its owner to keep exercising.

2) Smarter, healthier and safer homes

Homes will become smarter – a wide range of temperature-adjusting, pollution-detecting and humidity-measuring gadgets were on display at CES this year.

Some of these gadgets go even further; the house lights and plug sockets can now automatically react to the residents’ presence, without having to receive any commands. House residents just have to wear their smartphones or Bluetooth-connected devices, and their homes will know what to do.

And what about the sofa watching out after one’s health? It only takes getting a smart couch that not only wirelessly charges the phone or tablet, but also tracks how long one has watched TV while monitoring the person’s posture.

There’s no more need to worrytoo much about grandparents living all by themselves. There’s a brand-new detector that goes off if the old fellows fall.

If all this intelligence and surveillance makesone feel slightly uncomfortable, he or she may get a “Cone of silence,” a device that generates a white noise to overload speakers’ microphone arrays. This could also come in handy whenever one suspects Facebook of listening to his or her conversations…

3) TV that folds like a piece of paper

TV gets so sophisticated this year – withmuch brighter screens, delivering superior high dynamic range (HDR) images. It will feel like starring in a movie – from one’s own living room.

To go a step crazier, you can get yourself a foldable TV. The idea behind it is that one can easily move and store it, allowing for “better space utilization.”

4) Putting a finger in the ear to make a call

It makes for a more practical – or at least more original – way to make your daily calls using awristband that allows making a phone call by putting one’s finger in his ear.The sounds are produced through vibrations that travel from the wrist through the finger to the ear. His smartphone can in his pocket; it communicates with the wristband via Bluetooth.

5) The car gets crazier than ever

Self-driving cars may not be fully operational yet, but another fascinating technology trend is a more personalized experience in the traditional car. From the moment one gets in, the car automatically tunes in to his favorite radio station, warms up and adjusts his seat the way he likes it.

Other ground-breaking gadgets include a brain-to-vehicle interface, involving a brainwave-reading headset to anticipate when one turns the steering wheel or are about to press the pedal. The car will get interactive and responds to this information.

Or what about a car with a passenger pod that detaches itself like a skateboard? It can then be used as a “camping pod, a cozy cuddling pod or provide a fully-connected user experience for the occupants of the passenger cabin.” Or whenever the driver wants to get rid of his passengers…

Whether all these gadgets will actually make their appearance at people’s homes or driveways in the next couple of days remains to be seen. Be it as it may, 2018 promises to be the year where artificial intelligence becomes more real than ever and gets a foothold in people’s daily lives. (https://ideapod.com)
