In Support of Sugbu Mighty Dragons’ Bid for Dragon Boat Gold in Taiwan
CEBU, Philippines — Plantation Bay Resort and Spa proudly supports the men’s crew of Sugbu Mighty Dragons representing the Philippines in the 2018 Hualien Pacific International Dragon Boat Race.
The men’s crew of Sugbu Mighty Dragons (SMD) was selected to compete against 20 of the best teams from Taiwan, Hongkong, Japan, China and the Philippines in the 200-meter open category yesterday and today, March 17 and 18, at Liyu Lake in Hualien, Taiwan.
Sugbu Mighty Dragons is led by team captain Arnold Guinocor and coached by Jimmy Petilo of the Philippine Airforce Dragon Boat Team. The men’s crew paddlers include Zaldy Delgado, Johnrey Villaruz, Louie Jhune Mendez, Ludivino Alvez, Jr., Vard Keem Atuel, Jan Paul Tan, Nino Michael Baring, Sherman Murcia, and two of Plantation Bay’s very own – Myk Azcona and Argy Bermejo. Ursulo Dimpas takes charge of drum duties.
Hualien Pacific is the first international race for the men’s crew of Sugbu Mighty Dragons in partnership with Bugsay Pilipinas. Their training regimen leading into this competition includes five days a week of boat training at the Cebu Yacht Club, strength and conditioning exercises at Golds Gym Cebu, and twice weekly pool training at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Plantation Bay Resorts and the Sugbu Mighty Dragons have been supporting the promotion of dragon boat in Cebu with SMD assisting in the training and formation of Plantation Bay’s own all-employee dragon boat crew.
