ESTRO: A graduation Fashion show
CEBU, Philippines - A ‘first step on a journey of a thousand miles’ took place on March 18. It was a runway presentation that featured the creativity of a new crop of talents.
Titled “ESTRO” and held in the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City, the event was the graduation runway show of students of the Fashion Design Program of the University of San Carlos.
As it turned out, the new graduates proved to be quite a revelation.
Honey Joy Aster Borga used Pistaciavera shells as appliqués for eveningwear ensembles – a creative slant that capitalized on material that’s typically perceived as “common.” This approach landed Borga at second place in the event’s “Best in Fashion Design Thesis” awards.
Gelly Rose Daitao played with the “doble-kara” concept – presenting costume-themed ensembles that contextualized characters like “Florante” and “Laura”, “Malakas” and “Maganda” and “Apolaki” and “Mayari” in ambidextrous tenses. (FREEMAN)
