Aga tries hand at hosting magazine show

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Aga Muhlach is host of “Bida Kayo Kay Aga”, a new magazine show on NET 25. It’s a first for him to do this kind of show format but the award-winning actor said it is something that he has always wanted to do.

“I didn’t have second thoughts when NET 25 offered me this show,” said Aga at the Zoom conference yesterday. “I wanted to do something different. I was offered to do teleseryes but I am too passionate with films kaya parang mahirap tumanggap ng TV series.”

The actor said he is very thankful for this program from NET 25. “They gave me shows that I want like the game show. I want to spend time naman na makasama ang audience kasi that is something that I miss kasi wala tayong pelikula, Hindi rin lahat kasi nakakapanood ng sine. I am happy doing this show.”

Aga said there is so much gratitude in his heart with the jobs coming his way. “With this show, we want to make more people happy. Gusto ko na ma-experience nila ang saya. Gusto ko lang talaga magpasaya ng tao.”

“I liked the show format because we are able to focus with people who are doing random acts of kindness which is good and what I like most is that I am interacting with the public. I come in the show as a fan of the people. Nakakaiyak, nakatutuwa ‘yung mga napapanood ko ‘yung simpleng tao. This is a feel-good show which I really wanted to do. We want to feature stories to inspire others and make them feel good as well.”

The people doing good deeds to others, said Aga, are the real “bidas” in the show. At the Q&A, Aga was asked if there was ever a time he became a “bida” in somebody’s life.

“I don’t really want to talk about it but in my own little way marami na akong natulungan. I just didn’t want talk about it. Masaya na ako na naging bida ako sa buhay nila. May nabigyan ako ng shelter, ng hanapbuhay, ng ligaya sa puso nila. I was able to save a lot of people through the years,” he said.

Aga said retired former GMA Network executive Ms. Wilma Galvante, who is now with NET 25, was instrumental in him getting the programs “Tara Game Agad Agad” and “Bida Ka Kay Aga.”

“Ms. Wilma told me na it’s just fine kahit na medyo mataba ako. Just feel good about it and believe na I can still do hosting jobs. I embraced it naman.”

According to Ms. Galvante, getting Aga as part of NET 25’s stable of stars is part of their plan to position the network as a family channel.

Aga further shared that “Bida Ka Kay Aga” has a surprise element. “The Bida being featured doesn’t know that I am the one interviewing them. So they are really starstruck when I come into the picture. Pero nahihiya rin ako sa kanila so I try not to talk too much but just listen to their inspiring story.”

Aga is just thankful that he has two shows in NET 25 and he might also do a movie soon. He received an offer to do a really big film project but if it doesn’t push through this year, he will definitely do it in 2023.

His other film projects were put on hold because of the pandemic but he is looking forward to doing a film soon.

Aga said that when his children Andres and Atasha were still young, he didn’t mind cutting down work just to be able to spend time with them.

“I wanted to be with my children during their growing up years so I didn’t mind if I didn’t work just to spend time with them. There is little sacrifice in terms of income but no amount of money can match the happiness I had spending time with Andres and Atasha.”

If ever his teenagers would want to enter showbiz, he will support them. But the decision should come from them and they have to finish college first. He is glad that Andres and Atasha have become responsible since they are studying abroad.

“There is so much gratitude in my heart because my career is doing well,” he said. “I just want to give thanks for all the blessings.”
