Getting to know upcoming star Red Mendoza

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Red Mendoza considers himself blessed as he ranked second in the BidaStar contest in Kumu by ABS-CBN. This October, with the help of R Multimedia Management, he is set to release a cover of a popular song under Enterphil (Ivory Music and Video). Together with Rico Means, he also launched the pilot episode of “The Marupok Brothers Show” under R Multimedia Productions via the Kumu app.

Red describes himself as determined and goal-oriented. He doesn’t mind sacrificing his time with family and other things just to reach his goal. “It’s sad not being able to spend more time with my family but I have to do it for the sake of my dream,” said Red.

He believes his best character trait is being God-fearing. “I am able to calm myself more and put my complete trust in the power of God more than anyone else. Doing so makes me see things in a different perspective,” said the upcoming star.

Of his worst trait, he said, “I love food and it’s the first thing that I look for in any occasion. You can say matakaw ako.”

On the qualities that he looks for in a friend, he shared, “He should be respectful, understanding, truthful and one who can accept my whole personality and character.”

Now that he is embarking on a showbiz career, he aims to provide a bright future for his family, win acting awards, have hit songs, have a film starred in and conceptualized by him, and put up a successful business.

“In every step that I make towards reaching my ambition, I always include the Lord first in every decision that I make because I believe in His words in Proverbs 3:16, ‘In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.’”

Aside from acting, Red is interested in filmmaking ala K-drama style. He also wants to compose his own songs and watch cooking programs.

During his spare time, he watches and listens to God’s words from the Lakewood Church via YouTube, spends time with his family, or watches Netflix as he wants to give time for himself as well.

Asked on his thoughts about all rampant hate on social media, Red offered, “My stand on this issue is to be understanding and don’t react immediately, but you respond. For me, there is a big difference between reaction and response. If you respond, you think about it first. But despite the hate going around social media, I am make sure to understand first. We should realize we grew up in a different environment, we mingled and interacted with people of varied personalities. That way, I can avoid imbibing negative vibes and impression of people.”

What does he think of fake news and of those who spread them? “If they are happy with it and they consider it as an outlet for whatever burdens they have, I feel sorry for them because they would rather spend time spreading lies instead of fixing their lives. I don’t really mind them much because I know I won’t benefit from them.”

Does he think we should spend less time on social media and devote more time to our families? “I think personally yes. It is better to have a good personal conversation or bonding moment with your family. Life is short and we don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. Besides, you can’t bring your social media account with you in the afterlife. But if you were able to spend quality time with your family, you won’t have regrets at all.”
