Ellen Adarna getting the hang of comedy

John Estrada, who is line-producing “John en Ellen” for CIGNAL TV, said he thought that Ellen Adarna will not accept the offer to be his partner in the sitcom that espouses positivity and good family values.

“The role is really meant for her but I was afraid that she’s not interested to go back to acting,” said John who is both good in drama and comedy. “There’s something about Ellen that fascinates me. She’s a woman with a different character. She’s controversial, yes, but she is more than that. I am glad that I met her. She’s honest and she speaks her mind.”

The actor said he missed doing comedy and “John en Ellen” is definitely a welcome change. John hasn’t done comedy for quite a while. And he is happy to be working with Ellen whom she described as a natural.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to do different kinds of projects. I’ve been doing comedy and I know it requires an actor to be witty. I cannot say I am a great comedian but I enjoy making people laugh.”

Ellen, on the other hand, said doing comedy is kind of hard. But she is getting the hang of it. “It’s harder to make people laugh. But I want to give it my best shot.”

She said she is not open to doing a drama series or movie and would rather focus on “John en Ellen.” She doesn’t want to do more than what she can, especially if that would mean taking time that she can spend with her son. “My son is my priority,” said the actress.

While the press made reference to “John en Ellen” as this generation’s “John en Marsha,” the iconic sitcom that starred Comedy King Dolphy and Ms. Nida Blanca, John said the show doesn’t have such illusions. They just want to present something positive and focus on the story of a family that has a struggling father and an understanding wife.

Gerard Santos was surprised upon learning he will play the lover of Claudine Barretto in the comeback film of the actress tentatively titled “Nang Lumuha ang Langit” under Borracho Film Productions.

The newly-minted Aliw Entertainer of the Year is very thankful for this break and confessed he is also interested to try acting.

“Movie acting is a different kind of experience and I am excited although I must admit that I am intimidated to be working with Claudine,” said the singer at the presscon cum signing of Claudine for Borracho Films last week.

Gerard is a favorite of lawyer Ferdie Topacio, the owner of Borracho Films, and we can be sure Gerard will sing the theme song of Claudine’s comeback flick.

Hard work truly paid off as Gerard is elated with his win as Aliw Entertainer of the Year. It was something that he didn’t expect but he is very thankful to Aliw Awards Foundation for recognizing his work as a singer-performer.

“I am just overwhelmed and thankful. I didn’t expect to receive this kind of blessing despite the situation. I’ve been working very hard and whatever it is that I have achieved, it is because of hard work,” said Gerard.

The award is a gift for all the sacrifices and struggles he went through in his singing career, like being a part of the multi-awarded musicale “San Pedro Calungsod.”

Aside from the movie with Claudine, Gerard is also preparing for a new musicale titled “I Wil,” based on the life of famed Dr. Willie Ong who chose Gerard to play him.

Of course, the film project with Claudine is something to be proud since he is playing the role of the actress’ lover in the movie to be directed by Joel Lamangan. And he has a love scene with her. “I promise I will prepare myself for our love scene,” he said.
