Gazini to new MUP: ‘Stick to your purpose’

Vanessa A. Balbuena - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Gazini Ganados crowned her Miss Universe Philippines successor outfitted in a black serpentine gown by Cary Santiago that was said to be in honor of her late mentor Jonas Borces who months ago succumbed to COVID-19.

Grateful for her reign that was unexpectedly extended with Binibining Pilipinas activities put to a halt due to the pandemic, Gazini is “beyond excited to turn the page and begin a new chapter.”

In an Instagram post, the second delegate from Cebu to represent the Philippines at Miss Universe after Pilar Pilapil in 1967, wrote: “Mahal kong Pilipinas! It has been an honor to represent you during the best year of my life. Looking back, I feel nothing but gratitude. The past year was built with powerful experiences, learnings and opportunities to help which I will treasure forever.”

“To the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., Miss Universe Philippines Organization, and all the organizations I’ve worked with, thank you because more than letting me live out this dream, you gave me this amazing job and platform to push for causes that I am passionate about. Thank you to my family, friends, trainors, sponsors, and to all who supported me on this journey. Mommy Jonas Borces! I miss you now more than ever and I know you’re now with Nanay and Tatay in heaven.”

Welcoming the new Miss Universe Philippines to the sisterhood, Gazini told her to “stick to your purpose and understand the power behind that. Don’t forget to enjoy the journey!”
