Party list group courting Ate Guy for its senatorial slate

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

A party list group is convincing Superstar Nora Aunor to run for senator in the next elections.

A news report said that the multi-awarded actress, hailed as the People’s National Artist, is gunning for a senatorial seat, so we asked someone close to Ate Guy to verify the item.

According to a source, it is true that there is a party list group enticing her to join their roster of senatorial candidates. But it isn’t true that Ate Guy has agreed to the offer. She is still thinking about it.

Years back, Ate Guy ran for vice governor in her home province but lost. We are now in a different era but we can’t still say if her chances of winning have improved.

But we like that the actress has a stand regarding the Anti-Terrorism Bill that is being rammed down our throats to make it a law.

Many have commented that the Anti-Terrorism Bill has some provisions that run contrary to the protection of human rights.

“Sa panahon ngayon na sobrang paghihirap ang pinagdadaanan ng ating mga kababayan na marami ang nagkakasakit, nawawalan ng trabaho at walang makain ay sana huwag muna madaliin ang pagpapasa ng anti-terrorism bill. Magandang mapag-aralan muna itong mabuti para masiguradong hindi nga ito lalabag sa mga karapatang pantao ng mamamayang Pilipino,” said Ate Guy.

We admire her for being aware of the relevant issues confronting the majority of Filipinos and how these affect us all.

TRex Entertainment Productions will soon make an announcement on the movie that iconic actor Roderick Paulate will do for them.

Titled "Mudrasta," this will be directed by Julius Alfonso, the filmmaker behind the award-winning and critically-acclaimed "Deadma Walking," one of our favorite gay-themed movies.

"Mudrasta" is a family dramedy and Kuya Dick will play the role of the beki stepmom.

The script is written by Joni Montanos and is the comeback film of Kuya Dick. In case you're wondering who Joni is, she is the writer of last year's psychological sexy thriller "Adan."

We're sure that friends and supporters of Kuya Dick are excited with the actor’s impending movie comeback.

"Mudrasta" was supposed to start filming last March. A planned story conference was cancelled because of the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Plans for the shoot were set aside for the meantime.

Recently, there was a conference via zoom involving the "Mudrasta" production team which discussed the start of filming very soon.

We wonder what the Metro Manila Development Authority or MMDA plans to do with the movies they selected as entries to the supposed First Summer Metro Manila Film Festival.

Is the festival still pushing through? What will be the set-up if cinemas will be allowed to open but they need to practice social distancing?

The showing of the entries to the the 1st Summer MMFF had been postponed due to the pandemic. But we believe the film producers are still hopeful their movies will still see the light of day. When is the big question. Just like actor-turned-politician Cong. Alfred Vargas, who stars in one of the entries, they are waiting for the decision of the MMDA and the Festival Execom regarding the films.
