Ronnie and Loisa’s big screen break premieres today

Filmmaker Theodore Boborol believes many people can relate to the story of “James & Pat & Dave,” his latest directorial assignment under Star Cinema.

“Let us face it, at one point in our lives, we were not chosen by the one we love,” said the director who gave us the hit movie “Vince & Kath & James” when shown as a filmfest entry. “So we dream na we can also have a love story that has a happy ending.”

He added that he hopes “James & Pat & Dave” will do well at the box-office, just like his first film “Vince & Kath & James.”

Ronnie Alonte, who plays James, said he can relate to his character. He said there was this girl he liked very much. He courted her for six months. She introduced her to his family and he was also able to meet her family. But in the end, she didn’t choose him. Ronnie was hurt and downtrodden but thanks to his family and friends, he was able to move on from that heartbreak.

“I was still young at that time and not yet in showbiz,” the young actor recalled.

Also playing one of the male leads is Donny Pangilinan, the son of former actress Maricel Laxa. He said he became close to Loisa Andalio and Ronnie because they were together on location in a beach resort.

“Lockout kami sa beach. Bawal umuwi kaya nag-bonding kami. And I really saw how close they are. Sobrang sweet nilang dalawa,” he said.

Loisa and Ronnie were already a couple when they started doing the film. And it helped because they have chemistry, according to their director.

Loisa believes they are lucky to have been given this opportunity to be the headliners of the movie. “Naging kami ni Ronnie kahit na hindi pa kami ang magka-loveteam. Pero sinuportahan kami ng mga fans and now we have a movie together. We are so grateful that they noticed our loveteam and gave us this movie,” said Loisa.

“This is a dream come true for me. As a young girl, I have been wanting to see myself acting on the big screen. I am very excited for this movie. This is our gift to all of our fans.”

“James & Pat & Dave” opens today in cinemas nationwide.

The triumph of the Korean film “Parasite” at the recently concluded Oscars is a big win for Asian cinema.

We are certainly hoping that in the future, a Filipino film will likewise make it to the Oscars and score a big win.

We have been sending our local films for a possible shot in making it as an entry to the Oscars but we have yet to earn the nod.

We wonder when that eventful day will be when we can proudly say that a Pinoy film made it to the Oscars?
