Liza Soberano eyed as tourism ambassador

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Among the top 10 celebrities who like to travel abroad, wherein they share their photos in their social media accounts, showcasing their beauty and the splendor of their destinations, it is Liza Soberano whom Mr. Ritchie Tuano, president of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association, is eyeing as the possible brand ambassador for their group.

Also making it to the elite list, culled from postings on their Instagram accounts for the past two years, were Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero (Heart Evangelista) and Lourdes Virginia Poe (Lovi Poe).

Our third and fourth Miss Universe winners, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray, doctor to the stars and the rich and famous Vicky Belo, this generation’s movie queen Bea Alonzo, rebel without a cause Nadine Lustre and Philippine Sweetheart Maine Mendoza, also made it to the list. The lone male entry in the elite grouping is Tim Yap.

The Philippine Travel Agencies Association formed a three-person committee to come up with a list based on the stars’ social media posts for the last two years.

PTAA President Ritchie Tuano explained, “These days, social media has become one of the best tools for the travel and tourism industry. Pictures and videos are the best ways to entice people to visit a place. Celebrities, whether they realize it or not, do a lot to boost visits to different locations within and outside the country. Their fans aspire to go where they go. Moreover, the public also gets to find out more about the places they visit. They provide both the glamour factor and the reassurance that the place is safe to visit.”

The 27th PTAA Expo is happening from February 7-9 at the SM MOA SMX Convention Center. On its first day, the special celebrity guest is Glaiza de Castro. The SB19 pop group will perform on the second day, while Karylle will makes her presence felt on the last day of the expo.

“Anyone can take a picture of their travels and just post it online, but these stars really draw in their followers by sharing their candid moments during their journey,” said Tuano. “You know they don’t just go to the place to have their picture taken. They enjoy each and every place wholeheartedly. They also go out of their way to interact with the locals.”

Jed Madela is in cloud nine after winning the Male Recording Artist of the Year plum at the Star Awards for Music, his seventh award from the organization.

The singer admits he still gets excited whenever he gets nominated for an award and he makes it a point to attend the awards night.

“It feels good to be recognized for your good work. There a lot of good singers in the industry and to be nominated is a big honor already. The award inspires me to work harder,” he said.

“Honestly, to be nominated already excites me. I am happy to be recognized. And if I win, it is a way of affirming to myself that I am doing right. It means people like what I do, most especially award-giving bodies who gave me the recognition.”

He also expressed interest to do musical collaborations with other artists. And hopefully, direct concerts of other artists as well.

Jed is doing a pre-Valentine show with Angeline Quinto at the Grand Ballroom of Marriott Hotel on Feb. 12.
