STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

Sharon Cuneta renewed her contract with the Kapamilya Network during a contract signing held yesterday at the ABS-CBN office, after which the Megastar met with the media to talk about her upcoming projects.

Before the press conference was a video presentation where Sharon was welcomed back to ABS-CBN by Billy Crawford, Gary Valenciano, and Ogie Alcasid who were with her in the show “Your Face Sounds Familiar.” She was also welcomed by Aga Muhlach, Regine Velasquez, Sarah Geronimo, Judy Ann Santos and her daughters Frankie and Miel Pangilinan, as well as by her husband Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.

Sharon was likewise honored by surprise song numbers by Jed Madela, Nyoy Volante, The TNT Boys, Onyok and two former contestants from “The Voice Kids.”

The singer-actress was almost in tears with the tribute number. She said she enjoys doing “The Voice Kids” because the staff, the hosts, and the members of the jury are like family to her.

Sharon also announced that she is negotiating for several movie projects, with three films already confirmed. Negotiations for the other movies are ongoing. She hopes to be able to do four movies until next year.

“Everything has fallen into place and I am excited to be working again soon,” said Sharon whose dream is to do a talk show similar to the one done by Ellen Degeneres.

She also took the occasion to congratulate Regine who won Entertainer of the Year at the Aliw Awards where their collaboration concert titled “Iconic” also won an Aliw trophy.

She is also doing a concert in Australia this April and she is requesting for prayers for the country which has been devastated by a big forest fire that killed some animals like koalas and kangaroos.

When asked about the issue of the renewal of the Kapamilya Network’s franchise, Sharon said she is hopeful that the matter will be resolved peacefully and for the good of the parties concerned.

Someone should tell Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to be a little cautious in issuing statements regarding national issues lest he be misunderstood and labeled as a Duterte dummy.

The netizens are having a field day taking to task the mayor after he sided with the police officer who dismissed the statement of Vice President Leni Robredo that the war on drugs is a failure.

Some netizens are saying that Mayor Isko should spend more time in solving the problems of the city of Manila like garbage, the vendors and housing for the informal settlers which he said he will focus on this year.

Some netizens are also saying that Isko making comments on national issues is tantamount to grandstanding since he has barely warmed his seat as mayor.

But while the mayor can’t help having bashers, there are also those who took the cudgels for him. They say he is doing quite a good job addressing the many problems of the city and that he should not lose focus on his job.

It’s Ms Ai Ai delas Alas for the opening salvo of Regal Entertainment this 2020.

“D’Ninang” is the movie’s title directed by GB Sampedro and co-stars the comedy queen with the new tandem of Kisses Delavin and McCoy de Leon.

The movie features Ai Ai with the new tandem of Kisses Delavin and McCoy de Leon.

She plays a pickpocket with a big heart. While her character is guilty of wrongdoing, Ninang extends help to her community where she appears to be everyone’s godmother, thus they refer to her as Ninang. She is like the female version of Robinhood.

Ai Ai’s last movie with Regal was the highly successful “Our Mighty Yaya” in 2017.

The Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee has announced the top four movies of MMFF 2019.

In alphabetical order, these are “Miracle in Cell No. 7,” “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity,” “The Mall The Merrier” and “3Pol Trobol Huli Ka Balbon.”

The total gross of the eight entries is P955 million, lower by 4.5 percent of the target gross which is 1 billion.

The committee said it was difficult to meet the target gross because many cinemas in the provinces were affected by the earthquake that rocked Mindanao and the typhoon that struck Visayas.

Nevertheless, they are happy that the festival made money, thus they will have something to give to the beneficiaries.   The deadline for submission of entries to the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival was extended to February 15. The festival will start on April 11, which is Black Saturday.
