Clint Bondad on single life: It's a different kind of relaxed

Karla Rule - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Described by “Love You Two” lead star Jennylyn Mercado as a “fast-learner” and “very open,” newbie actor Clint Bondad is apparently blending well in a group of experienced and award-winning actors the likes of the first “Starstruck” female winner herself and veteran leading man Gabby Concepcion.

Jennylyn shared how the newly-minted Kapuso is such a friendly chatterbox who never fails to entertain people on set. Among the things they chat about are fitness-related stuff, with Jennylyn known to seriously engage in sports and Clint being religious with his diet.

Clint said he marvels at how Jennylyn can gobble up desserts yet not gain a pound (she doesn’t diet and relies on workouts to stay fit), while she admires his discipline to only eat at a certain time of the day and follow a rigorous exercise routine.

“I say this many, many times si Jen ang dahilan bakit ako napunta sa GMA. We just enjoy, super casual. She’s kind of like a big sister,” said Clint, who first worked with the actress in a “Dear Uge” episode.

In “Love You Two,” Clint plays Jennylyn’s ex-boyfriend Theo who leaves her character Raffy behind to seize a career opportunity abroad after a series of attempts to propose to her. Raffy had turned down Theo several times because she has to take care of her family first.

“Ang gusto ko sa kanya [Theo], he’s very caring, loving and loyal. He’s very committed in general. Ang ayaw ko sa kanya is maybe he’s a little afraid. Takot siya sa mga partners niya. He’s a perfectionist,” he said.

Asked how long he’s willing to wait in real life for a significant other to commit, Clint said it depends on the circumstances and that there’s no specific time table.

Clint, who rose to the limelight as the ex-boyfriend of iss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, said he’s currently enjoying the single life. “It’s a different kind of relaxed. I’m enjoying myself,” he laughingly quipped.

As viewers await his role’s return into the storyline, Clint said he’s excited to share the screen with Gabby.

“Challenging actually,” admitted Clint of his acting stint so far. “Maraming drama na eksena. And of course, ang mga sampal. Yung mga proposal scenes medyo emotional din. It’s interesting kasi even sa casual scenes, there’s a certain tone you have to hit.”

Clint, who has already appeared in other Kapuso shows including “Unang Hirit” and “Sunday Pinasaya,” officially inked his management contract with GMA Artist Center on May 7.

“The atmosphere here in GMA is very light and happy, bagay sa personality ko. When people believe in you, it’s a big push and mas madaling mag-improve,” Clint told reporters during his contract signing.
