Sylvia Sanchez searching for long-lost father

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

Award-winning writer Ricky Lee has a film project titled “Culion.” He is writing the script of this period film to be directed by Alvin Yapan (Urian winner for “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa”) and produced by the controversial Shandii Bacolod.

The movie, according to Ricky, is set in the 1940s. This was the time in our country’s history that many people got sick of leprosy. At that time, there was no cure yet for leprosy and those found afflicted with the disease were brought to Culion to isolate them.

According to Ricky, he already did research in Palawan before and found the stories of people living in Culion very interesting.

The respected writer said that the film will be a story of triumph and hope. Even if you are afflicted with the disease, the will to live and to continue life resonates in the film.

According to Shandii, there will be audition for various roles needed so watch out for announcements in the social media account of “Culion: The Movie” for details.

Sylvia Sanchez has been looking for her father whom she has never met. The actress would probably even spend a fortune just to find her father. That’s why when the offer came to do a movie about OFWs, Sylvia readily agreed.

She found out that Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), which takes care of the concerns of overseas workers, had been successful in locating long lost parents or relatives of OFWs. Sylvia is hoping that OWWA will be able to help her in her quest for her lost father.

“Siyempre pag may kulang sa buhay mo,hinahanap mo iyon, para magkaroon ka rin naman ng closure. Matagal ko na gustong mahanap ang tatay ko. Sana makatulong ang OWWA sa akin para makita ko siya,” said the actress who is playing an OFW in the film.

Sylvia doesn’t hide the fact that she indeed asked the help of OWWA to locate her father in Brazil. And she is hoping that they can help her.

Aside from this new film, Sylvia is playing the lead role in “Jesusa,” an entry in the ongoing Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival. She’s playing a mother who took drugs after her husband (played by Allen Dizon) brought his mistress into their conjugal home.

The film, directed by Ronald Carballo, is set in a rundown community where Jesusa leads a normal life until circumstances drag her to be swallowed by the low lives of her neighbors.

“She is very good in the film,” said talent manager Wowie Roxas who produced the film for OEPM Films.
