Sinulog Idol Season 10

CEBU, Philippines — The second evening of Sinulog Idol Season 10 held Sunday at Plaza Independencia, dubbed Jam Night, saw the 12 contestants grouped into four, with each team tasked to choose one slow song and one upbeat piece.

Vanessa Parame, Jonas Elarcosa and James Alfafara were the first to perform their song choices, “Way Back Into Love” from the movie “Music and Me” and “Sway” by Michael Buble.

Jake Batiancela, Maica Papas and Shim Dagatan presented their pieces, “Say Something” by A Great Big World and “Tip Toe” by Jason Derulo.

Jessa Abaquita (Friday evening’s Star of the Night awardee), Zane Dugaduga ang Kyla Dizon sizzled onstage with their rendition of “Pagsure Oy” by Zhalia and “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj.

This time around, Rache Parco, Mikee Allaga and Yad Jayme were hailed Stars of the Night for their performance of “Heaven” by Bryan Adams and “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley.

“Overwhelmed kaayo ko although naa mi mga conflicts and daghan mi nga gibuhat nga mga preparations, pero nagkasinabot gyud mi. Gi-work gyud namo tanan para makumpleto gyud mi,” said Parco, adding that their song choices were based on what suited their vocal range.

Allaga said it wasn’t hard to collaborate with Parco and Jayme even if they do not have the same taste in music, believing it was their personal connection that allowed them to win this round.

Former “Pinoy Dream Academy” scholar and Sinulog Idol resident judge Apple Abarquez commented that Parco, Allaga and Jayme were each given their own moments during their number.

“Very nice. Rache, Yad and Mikee. It is a night for you. Your slow song impressed me a lot and this one [upbeat song] entertained me a lot. Good job,” Abarquez said.

After deciding not to eliminate anyone last Friday, the judges were not as kind on the second night as they had to let go of one. Elarcosa of Daanbantayan bid goodbye from the competition since he emerged as the bottom scorer. On the first night, he was one of the Bottom 3.

“I am very sad pero wala ko nag-expect that I will be the only person who will be eliminated on this round,” Elarcosa said.

“The experience is dili mabayran og kwarta kay nakakita ko og family. Pirmi man ni nila isulti nga Sinulog Idol is family. Na-feel nako nga apil ko sa pamilya. In fact daghan kaayo sa akong mga kauban ang naghilak after I got eliminated.”

Elarcosa thanked those who supported his Sinulog Idol stint.

“Naa koy nakita nga nagpa-tarp pa sila, nag-effort gyud sila and it was very much appreciated. I hope nga bisag gawas nako sa competition kay naa gihapon sila nga mu-support nako,” he said.

Sinulog Idol is produced by Soundtraxx Production Studio in partnership with the Cebu City Government and the Sinulog Foundation Inc.
