CEBU, Philippines — Cebu bet among Top 7 finalists in Beach Beauty Competition.

Despite being the youngest, 18-year-old Cebuana Kylah Sanchez is making a strong start in this year’s Miss World Philippines (MWP) search.

As the 40 official candidates visited the gorgeous beaches of El Nido, Palawan, Kylah didn’t only get her time in the sun, she also had her time in the spotlight. After spending two days at Lio Beach Resort doing their video and photo shoots, the ladies were in contest mode for the pageant’s Beach Beauty Competition held at the El Nido Municipal Court.

The best seven were chosen, and the winner will be fast-tracked to the semis. Kylah, who represents Consolacion town, was among the Top 7 finalists chosen for the event, joining a group of favorites and strong contenders that include Bb. Pilipinas title-holder Katarina Rodriguez.

The other selected candidates are former TV5 talent Chanel Morales, daughter of actress Almira Muhlach and former basketball star Bong Alvarez and niece of Aga Muhlach: Alyssa Muhlach Alvarez, entrepreneur and business mentor Pearl Hung, Miss Intercontinental first runner-up Katarina Rodriguez, Maureen Montagne and Angelica Estrevillo.

In a previous interview with The Freeman, Kylah – crowned early this year as Miss Hannah’s Tourism Ambassador – said that her youth is both an advantage and disadvantage.

“Off stage, I don’t think people see me as competitive, but when I’m on stage it just comes out,” quipped Kylah, a Grade 12 General Academic Strand student from the University of Cebu.

“I’m young and I’m dedicated. My parents taught me to aim for the best and to never settle for less because the higher you set your goals, the bigger efforts you exert. And that’s why I have my eyes on the Miss World Philippines crown.”

Reigning MWP queens Laura Lehmann (Miss World 2017 Top 40), Sophia Senoron (Miss Multinational 2017), Cynthia Thomalla (Miss Eco-International 2017) and Teresita Winwyn Marquez (Reina-Hispanoamericana 2017) will turn over their crowns on Oct. 7 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
