Radio stations unite for Lapu-Lapu City's Kadaugan Street Party

- Vanessa Balbuena -

CEBU, Philippines - After last year’s first staging of Lapu-Lapu City’s Kadaugan Street Party (KSP) exceeded organizer’s expectations, their 2012 edition promises to be even bigger and better!

For starters, while only two local radio stations participated in last year’s celebration, four radio stations will put up a stage and mount events in their assigned areas along M.L. Quezon Avenue this April 27 and 28. It was only DYLS and DYRT last year; this time around, Wild FM and DYHP-AM will join the two and bring along their voice talents for the maximum entertainment of Oponganons and their visitors.

“The success of last year’s KSP had a lot to do with the radio stations which helped us advertise the event. With their participation again this year, there will be a balance of events catering to the young crowd, and the young-at-heart,” said Lapu-Lapu City Councilor and Sports and Tourism Commission Chairman Harry Radaza.

DYHP’s Russel Fullozos said they will bring their talents to the event that will feature among others, famous radio personalities Goliath and Teban. They will also offer drama and variety shows, dances, magic and comedy.

DYLS, which was the biggest crowd-drawer last year, assured of an improved set of fun activities.

A first time participant, Bong Roxas of Wild FM said that they are honored to be part of the event and thanked Lapu-Lapu City for inviting their radio station. “We are partnering with JBC Mobile Disco, which is known as one of the biggest dance mobiles in Cebu. We will also be showcasing Bisrock bands. On the two days we will drop our sense of competition among radio stations and we will just be celebrators of the event,” Roxas said.

KSP has been touted as the biggest event to hit the streets of Lapu-Lapu City. It will be two whole days of non-stop activities, live entertainment, shopping booths, games, sports, food and drinks.

On Friday, April 27, get up close to the boxing action as ALA Promotions will present an Amateur Boxing Night. Check out all the coolest moves, tricks and flips by talented dance groups from all over the city in the Street Dance Competition. Dance all day and party all night to live DJ’s from Penthouse at the Goldberry Suites Parking lot. Turn up the heat with Let’s Share TV’s Wet T-shirt Party, then visit the Carnival and unleash the inner child in you. When the clock strikes 12, run, walk or crawl your way in the never seen before Midnight Beer Run (3K or 6K).

The party will continue on Saturday, April 28, with the Rampada, the most-awaited event of the Kadaugan Street Party, where revelers can feast their eyes on the most beautiful ladies of the island as they celebrate a centuries-old tradition.

Motorists are invited to witness a spectacular show of pimped-out cars and sound systems in the Car Show by the Federation of Auto Club Cebu. Be entertained by the hottest, local and national musical acts at the 360-degree stage in front of City Hall where live performances await.

There will also be a Gourmet Walk, featuring menus from Mactan Island’s world-class resorts and hotels. Finally, the KSP experience will be wrapped up with a spectacular fireworks show and the Rampada after-party.

The two-day festival and street party is expected to draw more than 60,000 people, an estimate that organizers hope to yet again exceed. The whole stretch of M.L. Quezon National Highway in between both bridges will be closed to make way for all the exciting activities that the city has in store for everyone. (FREEMAN)
