CEBU, Philippines —   Swedish furniture giant IKEA plans to open over 20 collection points across the Philippines in the next couple of years, touching base with the country-wide consumer base through an eCommerce portal.

This was announced by Jon Cinconiegue, Fulfillment Developer of IKEA Philippines, during the formal opening of Cebu Collection Point located at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

IKEA opened its world’s largest store in Pasay City, Metro Manila in November 2021. Since then, the company established six collection points. Cebu is the first pick and collection hub in Visayas and Mindanao.

Instead of opening physical stores to make presence in major cities and provinces in the Philippines, IKEA has employed innovative expansion concept, which has also been implemented in other countries, through establishing “Collection Points”.

These collection points are hubs where customers outside of Metro Manila can pick up their online purchases from the largest IKEA store in the world.

“We are always looking for new ways to make our home furnishing solutions more accessible to many people. Through additional collection points in Luzon and Visayas, we can reach even more Filipinos and help them create a better and more sustainable everyday life,” explained Cinconiegue.

According to Jarek Lesniewski, In-Store Logistics Manager at IKEA Pasay City, the Philippine entry has been one of the most surprising success stories for IKEA, thus far, as its opening forecast was overshadowed by actual market demand immediately after it opened the store in Pasay in November 2021.

“We’re overwhelmed with [Philippine market] reaction,” said Lesniewski explaining that the forecasted volume of stocks estimated to last for 10 weeks, were sold in just few days after the opening.

The Cebu Collection Point hub officially opened on February 8. Fees for the Click & Collect service is peg at P2,700 for Cebu, with XDE Logistics providing courier services.

XDE is the domestic contract logistics partner of IKEA Philippines providing door to door deliveries from Manila to Cebu and across the country. IKEA has also partnered with LBC in providing parcel delivery to both Pampanga and Cebu which will be offered soon.

Online shoppers can avail the collection point service in three quick and easy steps; Upon check out, select the Click & Collect option; Choose preferred collection point, collection date, and time of pick up; After payment, shoppers will receive an order confirmation and SMS notification once order is ready for pick up at the collection point.

IKEA is the world’s largest home furnishing retailer with more than 462 stores.

IKEA Philippines is part of Ikano Retail, the only franchisee owned by the family of the IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad.
