My new year’s wish

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Romelinda Garces - The Freeman

We are back to the usual grind. Work takes on its normal pace and whatever vestige of the holidays that were left on our shoulders, have slowly been shed as we stand akimbo over the work that is to be done.

Most of us approached the year with hope. And even on the last days of 2020 I think we were rearing to shed off its remnants and wish that as we wriggle out of that year, we leave all the burdens of uncertainty behind. Well, hopefully.

So here we are, confronted with the realities of today. The news of the vaccine getting more available sparks both optimism and trepidation. And there is only one certainty we can cling on to. That is the faithfulness of God.

The lessons of last year are blatant. Life is simple. No need for extravagance. Life is short. It must be savored. Life is a gift thus it must be enjoyed. So, we choose better. What is important. What is essential. And what we can let go.

I miss my friends. I miss seeing them and being able to hug them. I miss our arguments over things we are passionate about. Work, beliefs, hobbies and hubbies, wifies or partners as the case may be. There are so many things we took for granted that are of value now. I know each of us have some form of epiphany somehow. But I am grateful for all the many blessings God has given in spite of the scare of COVID. His strength. His protection. His love. His provision.

Trials have been aplenty. But we have a bigger, greater God. We are weak. We easily get scared. But He is strong.

I would like to claim His protection not just for our personal safety and that of our families but also that of our livelihoods, our economy and the peace of heart and mind of all people. For we need to be sober in our decisions on how to carry on for the pandemic is still in the air. I pray there will not be another lockdown as it layers the overlay of anxieties that have remained dormant. We just have to continue to take care. To remember always not to be complacent. And never forget to pray.

Happy new year everyone and to Sean Laurent Cruz, my adopted son, happy birthday!
