Pen-and-paper out, QR Code in for contact tracing system
CEBU, Philippines — The business community in Visayas is pushing for a halt in the usage of pen and paper in the contact tracing system.
Through Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI-Visayas), the recommendation was approved yesterday during the Regional Development Council (RDC) 3rd quarter full meeting held via Zoom.
EDC chairperson Virgilio Brigido Espeleta reiterated the highlights of the PCCI joint resolution number 9112020, on eApplications on Health Protocol in order to avoid further contamination of the virus.
The RDC approved the resolution by PCCI-Visayas and directed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to issue a memorandum circular mandating all business owners to discontinue the use of pen and paper in recording the entry of all their customers inside their respective business establishments.
It also requests the DTI to issue a memorandum circular mandating all business owners to adopt a standardized QR Code design and format for a more efficient contract tracing mechanism.
Central Visayas RDC chairperson Kenneth Cobonpue hopes for a more vibrant economic activity in the coming months, as businesses are starting to open up and people are earning.
With the Christmas season just around the bend, the private sector is also expected to be more stimulated.
