Another Pinoy BL series airs on YouTube

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

She may have her own share of bashers, but Frankie Pangilinan, the outspoken daughter of Sen. Kiko Pangilinan and Megastar Sharon Cuneta, is loved and admired by many.

When she was abroad, she made her presence felt locally in matters involving the social and political situation of her beloved country. Recently, Frankie lent her voice to women who have long remained silent on the issue of rape because of fear.

When Frankie posted her stand regarding rape, she was berated by Ben Tulfo. But Frankie stood her ground.

She remarked, “Rape culture is real and a product of this precise line of thinking, where the behavior is normalized, particularly by men. The way anyone dresses should not be deemed as ‘opportunity’ to sexually assault them. Ever. Calling me hija will not belittle my point.”

Most of the netizens expressed their admiration to Frankie and agreed to the cause she is espousing. Aside from the netizens, Frankie enjoys the support of her daddy Kiko and Mommy Sharon.

She may not have totally embraced showbiz as she is focused on her studies but she is one committed lady who will speak what is on her mind and what she thinks is right.

This is the reason why #hija was formed where rape victims can freely discuss their sorry experience, not because of the clothes they wore, but why they were raped.

Some people are asking if she can lead the movement or make an advocacy for #hija. In response, Frankie tweeted, “Been asked a few times now if I’ll be pushing the #HijaAko movement into a greater advocacy. While the brainstorming is imminent, I think it’s more important right now to take the time to hear from all the people who were brave enough to share their stories. I’m here to amplify your voices where others might try to invalidate them and I encourage everyone to do the same.”

For now, people are waiting if Frankie will take the challenge to head #hija. They are also curious if Frankie will be enticed to join politics just like daddy Kiko.

“Hello Stranger,” the BL-inspired (Boys’ Love’) series from Black Sheep which started airing on Wednesday night on YouTube, immediately caught the attention of netizens. It became a number one trending topic.

The new BL-inspired series stars Tony Labrusca and JC Alcantara. It can’t be helped that “Hello Stranger” is being compared to other Pinoy BL series like “Game boys” and “Sakristan,” but “Hello Stranger” has its own flavor and kilig.

Acting-wise, we give a passing mark to Tony, who plays the varsity player who needs to work hand in hand with a nerdy-type of classmate so that he will pass his Literature subject, or else he will be dropped from the basketball team.

Tony fits his role as the yummy varsity player who, obviously, will be the object of affection of JC. He and JC have chemistry which can be developed even more depending on the story development of “Hello Stranger.”

Based on the reaction of the netizens, they like Tony speaking in English since it makes him sound sexy.

To be fair, he did pretty well in his role as Xavier, and some viewers said that Tony’s presence will make them continue watching “Hello Stranger.”

But some netizens were also looking for an intimate scene involving Tony and JC. Hey, we are only on the first episode. Can’t we wait for the story to develop first?

“Hello Stranger” is directed by Petersen Vargas. Catch it every Wednesday on Black Sheep’s YouTube channel.
