CEBU, Philippines —  The business sector in Mandaue City led by Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) proposed the creation of a Healthy Building Board.

This is to strongly lay the foundation of adapting a healthy lifestyle moving forward after the pandemic, said MCCI president Steven Yu.

“Being a member of the Green Building Board of Mandaue City, I am thinking of proposing to rename the board as the ‘Healthy Building Board,” said Yu.

Aside from advocating the construction of environment-friendly building, the need now has evolved into designing health-friendly buildings, taking into consideration the facilities that are needed in health crises, such as the Coronavirus.

“Moving forward, we will not just go for Green Building [advocacy], but Healthy Buildings,” stressed Yu in a press conference.

The COVID-19 unprecedented experience has directed everyone to take healthy lifestyle immensely, Yu said adding that is health is the new star now, everybody’s mantra.

Yu, whose businesses include hotel development, trading, among others said that healthy buildings will not only focus on reducing carbon footprints and global warming, but it will go much further will produce results such as increasing life expectancy and improving the quality of life.

He noted that the new health standards will revamp priorities and will make people value living (or spending more time) with families.

“There will be an inertia towards the home. Work place health standard will be the ‘crux’ of the safety and health protocols of businesses. This is the sure-fire positive outcome of this pandemic,” said Yu.

Significantly, financial difficulties will alter the business landscape of cities. But, overtime he believes that the world heals and the population will overcome this depression.

“Let us support and abide by the mandates health protocols of the government so we can flattened the curve. When the stars aligned, a better world awaits us,” he concluded.
