Marriott hotel to rise in Mandaue

CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City will have its first branded business hotel in the next six months following the partnership inked with Marriott International chain and Jovima Management & Development Corporation (JMDC).

JMDC, the developer of JY Square Mall and IT Center, through its hospitality arm Prestigio, Inc., signed a partnership agreement with Marriott International for the development and operation of the first Fairfield by Marriott hotel to open in Cebu. The first branded hotel to open in Mandaue City.

“Marriott International is experiencing incredible growth in the Philippines,” said Peter Gassner, regional vice president for hotel development Asia-Pacific, Marriott International.

Gassner said Marriott’s come back to Cebu is driven by the province’s rosy prospects in tourism and business.

Mandaue City in particular is an underserved area in terms of accommodation, added Gassner.

“Prestigio’s partnership with Marriott marks a milestone in Jovima’s 31-year history. This pays homage to our roots in the hospitality industry, having opened on of the first business hotels in the 80s. With this, we move forward to establishing Prestigio and the JOVINA group as a key player in the industry as we eye more hotel developments in the Visayas and Mindanao regions,” said Joseph Michael Yu, vice president for Prestigio, Inc.

At present, Prestigio Inc. operates Prestigio Hotel Apartments in Lahug area.

The 150-room Fairfield by Marriott will be located at JY Square Mandaue, along AC Cortes. It is a 5,000 square-meter integrated development which will also host retail, commercial buildings.

Jovina Management & Development Corporation was established in 1988 and is a pioneer in the retail and real estate industries in Cebu City. It started as JY Construction, Inc. in 1976 and has grown into a full service organization engaged in retail, real estate development, design, and engineering with JY Square Supermarket, JY IT Centers, and JY Construction.
