Demand for event spaces seen to rise

CEBU, Philippines — Following the introduction of co-working space facilities in Cebu, demand for event or community spaces is seen to rise.

In anticipation to this new dimension to leasing, artist-entrepreneur Margarita “Margo”

D. Frasco opened her first community space facility called The Core.

Managed by MDF Productions, The Core is a 101 square-meter multi-faceted space, which accommodates all types of private events, such as an intimate get-together, workshops, short courses or specialty classes, creative and entertainment related trainings, and rehearsals, among others.

It is a versatile space that can also be transformed into a studio (music, dance, art, yoga, meditation, zumba and others), depends on the clients’ need and requirement.

A passionate artist, production director Frasco pioneered this type of facility in Cebu as she has observed the absence of this type of specialized offering here.

“In 2012, I directed a play and it was difficult to find the right space , and it’s so expensive,” said Frasco in an interview adding that establishing this type of offering also helps nurture the creative gifts of Cebuanos.

She also mentioned that The Core is also designed as an avenue for support groups to meet and find healing in a conducive, private space, especially those groups that do not have available private spaces to meet, except somebody’s home.

While this type of business concept is still new in Cebu, Frasco is confident that just like the growth of co-working space facilities here, this type of offering is expected to flourish in the short term, as the demand has always been there.

Located at FLC Center in Hernan Cortes street, Mandaue City, she described The Core as a space offered to the market where one can express themselves freely and uniquely, may it be a get-together of friends just to have good time, to performers, fitness instructors, a craftsman, visual artists, art exhibitor, among others.

It is practically selling space largely targeted to entertainment and creation events.

Frasco said, although this type of business is still new in Cebu, the booking of the facility since it opened last month is quite encouraging.

She is planning to open a similar facilities in other areas in Metro Cebu soon.  An advocate to develop pure Cebuano talents, she also plans to hold pocket events within the studio.

Frasco a theater artist turned entrepreneur also plans to start theatrical productions through her production firm in the near future.
