CBM 2019 to tackle innovation challenges

Carlo S. Lorenciana - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Business Month this June will take up innovation challenges faced by local businesses to forums that will center on how technological advancements can be applied to boost operations.

CBM chair Lilu Aliño, in an interview earlier, said this year’s CBM will introduce a reserve pitching where businesses are to share their hurdles when it comes to embracing innovation and how technology companies can come into play.

The entrepreneurship and innovation forum this year, slated on June 12-14, will center on the need for Cebu businesses to apply innovation trends in their operations.

Aliño explained the CBM will continue to build on the innovation aspect particularly in playing it into action, citing it as vital for businesses to scale up and become competitive.

Furthermore, she also said the tourism forum on June 18 will highlight the areas where Cebu can further beef up its tourism offerings.

She said amusement, food and sports tourism will particularly be discussed.

Tourism is one of the primary sectors of agenda every CBM, being one of Cebu’s sunshine economic drivers.

This year’s tourism race event -- the Lumba’g Laag Sa Sugbo -- will give spotlight to Cebu’s northern attractions.

The event annually attracts many participants where they get to discover Cebu’s hidden tourist spots.

In the last two years, the race event had been focused to Cebu’s southern attractions.

CBM is the biggest annual event of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry where conferences, trade shows, among other events, are held during the month of June.

For the past three years, the month-long business celebration had centered its theme on digitalization and innovation amid the changes the modern technology has brought to the business community.
