Soco: Cebu traffic woes unlikely to affect tourism

CEBU, Philippines — Traffic problem in Cebu is not going to affect tourism, a business leader said.

Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) past president Glenn Soco believes that tourists’ impression of Cebu will not be spoiled because of traffic woes, saying “all major cities in the world experience traffic”.

Besides, he said Cebu is already fixing the problem of traffic with upcoming mass transport and the additional bridge on the way.

“Tourism will continue to soar with or without problems in traffic,” Soco said.

On the other hand, he urged Cebuanos to adapt the new metropolitan living, where urban issues like traffic can’t be avoided.

“We all have to adjust. We have just been too comfortable. We have to change our car-centric mindset,” added Soco.

The idea of live, work and play development should be embraced by Cebuanos, as this is the way to go for Cebu. The reason why integrated developments are now in demand, Soco added.

While tourists are more likely to downplay the issue of traffic, Soco appealed to Cebuanos to bear with the pains of urbanization.
