Shangri-La Mactan initiates scheme for leisure travelers

CEBU, Philippines —  Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa is catching up with the social-media driven times, as it enables the property to be the world’s first Garmin-enabled resort.

“We are proud to be the first fully Garmin-enabled resort in the world,” said the resort’s general manager Renè D. Egle.

This first-of-its-kind initiative being introduced in the hospitality industry will provide value added facility to guests, enabling them to capture their memorable experience in their stay through the installation of steel camera mounts spread all over the property and provision of Gamin VIRB cameras free of charge.

Dubbed as “Shangri-La Mactan Stories,” guests are encouraged to make their creative videos, documenting their vacation experience in the resort using professional tools — free of charge.

“Guests can not only record their favorite holiday moments in high definition, they can also create memorably engaging videos of their own with the VIRB Edit desktop software, accessible through an editing station in the Resort’s entertainment zone,” added Egle.

Garmin, known for its specialized adventure watches and multi-sports gadgets, is also gaining popularity for its range of ultra-high-definition 4k action cameras, the Garmin VIRB.

Initially, Shangri-La’s Mactan obtained 10 units of Garmin VIRB for guests’ use.

Garmin products also allow quick social sharing, including live-streaming on YouTube and Facebook.

Egle noted that today’s socia-media driven generation needs to be complemented with right facilities, especially for hospitality service providers.

This is a pioneering initiative by Shangrila Mactan property, which is also expected to get the attention of the leisure travelers, particularly the young and creative bunch.

Videos created using the Garmin tools will also be uploaded in Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort official website and may qualify for the “Shangri-La Mactan Stories” award, a year-round competition in three categories: Inspirational, Action and out-of-the-box.

Shangri-La’s Mactan’s partnership with Garmin Philippines., distributed by NAVCO Inc., also include a retail agreement, Egle added.
