Busy week for BIR as deadline for filing of ITR draws near
CEBU, Philippines — It's a busy week ahead for the tax agency.
Taxpayers now only have one week before the deadline for the filing of income tax returns (ITRs) and paying of tax dues.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Cebu reiterates its call to taxpayers to file their ITRs.
The deadline for ITR filing is every April 15 following the close of a taxable year. But since April 15 this year falls on a Sunday, the deadline will likely be moved to April 16. This is similar to what happened with the ITR filing for taxable year 2016.
BIR-Cebu regional director Aynie Dizon has been urging taxpayers not to wait for the filing deadline.
Doing so, she said, would prevent taxpayers from paying penalties.
Tax returns filed and taxes paid after the deadline will be slapped with the corresponding penalties as provided for in the National Internal Revenue Code.
She cited penalties include 25 percent surcharge and interest.
Dizon reminded the taxpaying public to meet their tax obligations honestly and responsibly.
“Pay the correct amount of taxes and pay it on time,” she added.
Dizon also emphasized the need for our taxpayers to contribute so that our country can continue to develop.
She also stressed the taxpayers' role in fulfilling the government's goal to fund its development projects particularly in infrastructure.
She said the government's massive infrastructure program needs the taxpayers' help.
Funding these major infrastructure projects is necessary for our country to sustain high and inclusive growth, the revenue official said said. (FREEMAN)
