LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

In one of our First Friday Masses, the priest exclaimed that evil spirits are around.

It is in this line of thought that I would like to share with you this story of Bert in the book, Living Water 2009: "I always say a prayer before going to sleep. One time, however, it was past midnight and I woke up feeling the presence of evil. I was in my parents’ place in the province, in a room far from the main house where they stay. My initial reaction was to be afraid and run to the main house. But I thought, “Why should I be afraid when I have learned how to take authority over evil spirits, in the name of Jesus? I stood up from the bed and turned on the lights. Then I invoked the name of Jesus, took authority over the evil spirits and thereafter, started to praise God. I immediately sense  great peace, yet I felt that the evil spirits were not completely gone. I then opened my Bible to Psalm 23 and I read it aloud. In an instant, there was total peace and I went back to sleep. What wonderful rest I have.”

I, too, have my own share of casting evil spirits. One evening after arriving in Manila, I slept right away in the guest room of my son, Michael. I didn’t feel good that particular night after the flight because I had motion sickness. Without minding the world, I fell asleep. But in the middle of my sleep, I noticed that someone was choking me. I tried to resist it, but its powerful force was too strong to resist. I called my son and my daughter-in-law-Jeremie, but it seemed they didn’t  hear me. Then I remembered what my sister Jo Ann Serafin told me that to cast evil spirits you have to say, “In the name of Jesus, I cast you out,” – that’s what I uttered. I just realized that ‘he’ loosened  his grip on me. When I woke  up, the rays of the sun was passing through the windows. It was morning.

The https://aletteia.org website states, “While there is rite of blessing for houses to be led by a priest in a family home, this prayer designed for families to pray together in the absence of a priest can also be fruitful.” This is the prayer:

"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Father of infinite goodness, I am consecrating this place where I live with my family, my home to the Lord. I ask you Lord to bless us and drive all the evil away from us. Today, I make the decision to consecrate this house to You. I ask that, just as You went to the house of the bride and groom  at Cana in Galilee and performed Your first miracle there, come today to my house and cast out all evil that might taken root here…”

As a reminder, our source said, “Many homes become a place of  discord, of disputes over inheritances, of financial debts, of tears and sufferings. Some are the scene of infidelity; others become places of hate, vengeance, pornography, dissoluteness, theft, drug trafficking, disrespect, serious illness, psychological disorder, death and abortion. This prayer can be a spiritual weapon.

There are many spiritual weapons in the Bible that one can avail of.  There are wider choices. Just take your pick that can suit your needs.
