Pasigueños to enjoy affordable WiFi with Globe KonekTayo

MANILA, Philippines – As the COVID-19 pandemic prompts people to make their homes their new classrooms and offices, the need for internet access is becoming even more crucial and important to every Filipino household.

Seeing the need to address connectivity issues in communities, Globe Telecom officially partnered with the local government of Pasig City last December 14 to expand its KonekTayo program and provide Pasigueños with fast, reliable and low-cost home internet connection.

According to Globe Telecom president Ernest Cu, KonekTayo enables families who cannot afford the monthly cost of internet connection by allowing them to connect to a community WiFi with quality internet connection by simply using cellphone load.

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto welcomed this partnership between Pasig LGU and Globe as this will help many of his constituents in their daily internet woes.

“This is a very big step for us and I hope that this is just the first of the many steps that we will continue to take to improve digital inclusivity and to help make people feel the changes that we’ve started in Pasig City,’’ he said.

Aside from this partnership, the LGU also aims to help Pasigueños in their internet problems by weeding out corruption and streamlining the processes involved in telcos’ application for permits. The local chief executive said that these are necessary to build facilities that will improve connectivity in Pasig City.

Globe Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel De Ayala also believed that this partnership with Pasig LGU is one of Globe’s ways of working hand in hand with local governments to contribute whatever they can do for communities that need to be served.

“The internet has always been important, communication has always been important, and all the services that go with it. But this pandemic has also made us realize that so many services-healthcare, information, financial-all needs a network. And so we feel that strong responsibility now to be able to do what we can and work hand in hand with LGUS to do what we can,’’ he said. 

KonekTayo and WiFi Bus

Aligned with Globe’s mission of helping Filipinos have a better and more connected life, KonekTayo was initiated to make internet access easier and more affordable to many families, most especially those who are in underserved communities.

With the launch of KoneyTayo in Pasig City, its residents can now stay connected and surf all day for their office tasks and school works by simply connecting to a KonekTayo WiFi Hotspot and purchasing an internet package for as low as P15 a day.

Aside from this, KonekTayo Buses that broadcast WiFi Signals will also be deployed in select areas in Pasig to power even more households with fast and secure internet connection.

With the new partnership, Globe will power the following areas with its KonekTayo WiFi services:

• Pasig City Bliss Housing
• Eusebio Bliss Village
• Pasig City Maybunga Housing Project
• Eusebio Bliss IV Karangalan
• Karangalan Village

The KonekTayo Wifi bus will also be available from 7 a.m to 7 p.m from Monday to Sunday at the following locations:

• Ilaya Covered Court
• Santolan Big Amphitheater
• Kapitolyo
• San Joaquin Elementary School

Aside from Pasig City, Globe has also rolled out KonekTayo in other key cities such as Manila, General Santos City and Koronadal City in South Cotabato to provide Filipinos access to fast and low-cost internet.
