Phl takes part in Bonn climate talks

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  The Philippines has sent delegates to the latest round of climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany.

Climate Change Commission secretary Vernice Victorio heads the delegation, which includes officials of the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Environment and Natural Resources, and Agriculture; Office of the Cabinet Secretary and other concerned government agencies.

The climate talks, which run until today, are preparatory to the 23rd Conference of Parties that will also be held at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change Secretariat in Bonn.

Victorio expressed hope that negotiations will progress significantly, particularly on climate finance, technology transfer and development, transparency, and implementation and compliance.

She said these issues are strong advocacies of the Philippines, which has been active in previous climate talks.

Victorio said the Philippines’ recent submission of its instrument of accession to the Paris climate agreement gives the country an opportunity to continue its leadership position in the advocacy for climate justice.
