Mahindra Patrol Jeep ‘survives’ Sorsogon ambush

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The dependable and trusty Mahindra Enforcer patrol jeep prevented what could have been a fatal ambush to five members of the local MPS of Gubat town in Sorsogon recently.

The Enforcer patrol jeep, which bore the brunt of the heavy artillery damage, acted as an effective shield to five members of the Gubat MPS led by SPO1 Ronald D Din onboard a PNP Mahindra Enforcer patrol jeep who survived a sneak attack by an undetermined number of suspected CNN (CPP-NPA-NDF) elements upon reaching a forested area of Brgy. Casili, Gubat, Sorsogon recently.

In a report to the Acting Director of the PNP Provincial Office in Sorsogon City, SPO Ronald Din recounted how they were fired upon by armed elements believed to be members of the CNN in Brgy. Casili in Gubat. During the initial volley of fire, the CNN elements who were positioned at the back of the patrol jeep were hit, while the driver PO2 Dennis Garbida maneuvered a u-turn to extricate the troops from the killing zone. The police personnel then managed to return fire and engaged the enemy. The firefight lasted for about 15 minutes after which the enemy withdrew towards the direction of Brgy Cabiguhan also in Gubat, Sorsogon.

It was reported that all five police personnel sustained minor gunshot wounds but were otherwise safe, even as their Mahindra Enforcer patrol also ‘survived’ the ambush. It was to the Mahindra’s reliability and sturdiness that it did not falter or malfunction despite the damage it sustained.

The PNP Mahindra Enforcer Patrol Jeep had gaping holes all around its body parts due to the bullets that came from CNN elements, smashed front and rear windshields, broken windows and driver’s side door, impaired engine bay and a damaged right rear wheel. Despite the flat rear wheel, the PNP patrol jeep maneuvered safely until it reached its base. It was further reported that the said vehicle is still serviceable despite the bullet holes sustained during the ambush.
