The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) held the second Janitor Fish Catching Competition in Napindan, Taguig City, recently
Prior to the competition, LLDA distributed cleaning materials to Napindan Barangay Captain Mario Esguerra who led a barangay clean-up in the area. LLDA general manager Edgardo Manda joined Taguig City Mayor Freddie Tinga in a fingerlings dispersal activity in Laguna lake before proceeding to Barangay Napindan where the janitor fish competition was held
A total of 2,912 kilos of janitor fish was hauled and were bought at P10.00 per kilo by Star Anvil Trading, the company that uses janitor fishes in the manufacturer of liquid fertilizer. The fisherman who caught the biggest single janitor fish weighing 1.6 kilos was awarded a special prize of P2,000.00 worth of groceries
Highlighting the competition was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between LLDA represented by Manda and Star Anvil Trading represented by general manager Alice Villanueva, aimed at sustaining the program against the proliferation of janitor fish
"Today, the LLDA joins the private sector in the protection of the lake and in addressing the needs of our fisher folks," Manda told the crowd who witnessed the signing.
