MANILA, Philippines — Property giant Megaworld Corp. has appointed its former chief operating officer Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso as its new president effective immediately.

Gutierrez-Alfonso takes over the post of tycoon Andrew Tan, who will remain as chairman of the board of directors of the company.

The 61-year-old Gutierrez-Alfonso has been with Megaworld since 1990.

She is a director of the company and is a member of its board executive and management executive committees.

Gutierrez-Alfonso also currently serves as a director in numerous affiliate companies, including Global-Estate Resorts Inc. and MREIT Inc.

According to Megaworld, Gutierrez-Alfonso has extensive experience in real estate and a strong background in finance and marketing.

She graduated cum laude from the Far Eastern University with the degree of Bachelor of Science major in Accounting in 1984 and is a certified public accountant by profession.

Megaworld has a portfolio of master-planned integrated urban townships, integrated lifestyle communities and integrated lifestyle estates across the country.

It is aiming to end 2024 with 35 townships to celebrate its 35th anniversary.

The appointment of Gutierrez-Alfonso forms part of a series of new executive appointments within the Alliance Global Group (AGI).

The 44-year-old Kevin Tan took over as president of AGI this month following the retirement of key executive Kingson Sian.

AGI’s Travellers International Hotel Group, owner and operator of Newport World Resorts, also ushered in new leaders this month – Nilo Thaddeus Rodriguez as its new president and CEO and Lance Gautreaux as COO.

Travellers also appointed Laurence Hawke, a seasoned executive in the industry, as its new chief financial officer effective next month.
