CEBU, Philippines —  The Basketball Sports Alliance (BSA) teams sustained their winning ways to grab a pair of crowns in the 2023 AAU BBallshootout March Madness Tune-up 1 & 2 Basketball Championships at the Newark Academy in Livingston, New Jersey recently.

In the 14 Under age group, BSA completed a rousing three-peat after edging past Brooklyn USA-Steele, 58-53.

Nathaniel Fernando and Edrey Bay spearheaded BSA’s charge on the way to share the award as Most Valuable Players.

The other members of the BSA U14 grandslam champion are Leon Villavicencio, Derek Mayuga, Azar Villanueva, Engel Tampus, Sebastian Eman, Samuel Paquiz, Signechrist  Sumalpong, Dominic Ruiz, and Jolian Gomes. Their team manager is Reah Fernando.

On the other hand, the BSA cagers dominated Brooklyn USA-Griffith, 37-15, to claim their first ever crown in the 12 Under category.

Nicholas Fernando and Darrell Mayuga were named co-MVP. Their teammates are Julian Villavicencio, Zayden Ricanor, Kyle Chan, Nathan Umali, Aiden Sanchez, Aiden Ajero, MJ Ramirez, Joseph Yee, and Jake Castillo. Their team manager is Jane Chan.

Both the BSA U12 and U14 squads are under the guidance of Cebuano coaches Rhoel Gomez, Bembem Alcaraz and Eugene Tampus together with Elmer Remon, Victor Villegas, and Sam Eman.

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are,” said coach Elmer Remon, who established  BSA in 2012 with the help of Villegas.

BSA is a non-profit organization that aims to train, teach and coach Filipino-American kids and teenagers especially those who want to join collegiate varsity teams to further hone their hoops skills and prepare them for various tournaments. It also envisions to educate, empower, and develop aspiring ballers to become good and confident persons. — EBV
