Award-giving body HR Asia helps companies elevate workplace culture

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Wouldn’t it be great if we could survey our potential employers and find out whether they employ best HR practices for their employees? This would benefit both parties greatly: we can look after our own interests and align our values with the right company, and these companies would be assured of a lengthy career from their employees.

This is what the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards is essentially about. It is an awards recognition program for organizations that have been nominated by their own employees as among Asia’s best employers.

The award is targeted at companies across Asia, recognizing companies that employ the best HR practices and demonstrate high levels of employee engagement and excellent workplace cultures. The awards have been given out to exceptional companies since 2013, and with Philippine companies being given recognition since 2018. The high-profile nature of this award attracts applications from Fortune 500 companies, as well as other companies of various types, including multinational corporations and government-linked companies.

HR Asia began in 2009 as a bi-monthly magazine. Primarily targeted at HR professionals, the publication serves as a source of information for best practices and up-to-date HR trends around the world.

Some of the top Philippine companies have won HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards over the years, Globe Telecom and DDB Group Philippines being among those who’ve won in 2022.

Companies nominated in the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards are provided a holistic and informative assessment of their HR practices and, of course, its employees. For their part, HR Asia is able to benchmark results across industries and across markets.

Winning an award in HR Asia allows companies to build their brand as a desirable employer and help them attract and retain top talents.

Modern challenges

The digital age posed distinct challenges for companies as they try and attract top talents to become a part of their workforce. The HR department of all companies, including those in the Philippines, are striving to have their department as well as their services become more automated. The pandemic has underscored the need for digitalization of companies and their HR departments.

In a recent survey of HR leaders commissioned by Gartner, one of the biggest challenges company HR will be dealing with in 2023 is organizational change and design management for their employees. The survey found that employees are now more resistant to changes within their organization. Digital transformation, economic uncertainty, political tensions, among others, have all led to much disruption and change for companies, the survey said. As such, employees are now experiencing change ‘fatigue’.

The survey also showed that the move towards working remotely and having a hybrid workforce has been a major disruption for most companies. Understandably, most companies employ outdated strategies to meet the challenges of having a hybrid workforce. Recruiting leaders must reprioritize recruitment strategies to align with current business needs, and plan for multiple potential scenarios in the shifting landscape.

For these reasons, HR Asia is a helpful tool for businesses to assess the current needs of their talent pool, as well as how these companies can best harness the skills of their workforce. With all the data collected from employees of nominated companies, these businesses can get valuable insight on the ever-shifting, fast-paced, and increasingly becoming digital work spaces.

The awards ceremony for the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards is held annually in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
